MONTGOMERY
Our local town/village of Montgomery is a very pretty little place with a small selection of independent shops and eateries. A small market of local producers is held every Thursday. Montgomery is only a short drive from us, or a very nice walk, around 1.7 miles - although quite a steep hill, you are rewarded with lovely views, before arriving at Montgomery Castle at the top of the town.'Montgomery Trails' will give you lots of ideas for local walks in the area too - maps can be downloaded as 'pdf' files. There are of course, many lovely walks to take - directly from your doorstep!
There is also the 12th Century Montgomery Castle which is a great relic, steeped in history and offering great views across to the Shropshire countryside.

Well worth a visit is the nearby 'Glansevern Hall & Gardens', which also has a shop and courtyard cafe. Just 3 miles from us here. Spectacular gardens, woodlands, meadows and lakes. Simply stunning.

Gregynog Estate is quite spectacular and offers wonderful woodland walks through beautiful grounds. There is also a courtyard cafe and shop. The Estate is now owned by the University of Wales but was built originally by the Davies family. Just a short 9 mile drive from us.

Our nearby town of Newtown has benefited from some really exciting projects recently, mainly centred around the beautiful 'Dolerw Park' which the River Severn runs through. A wonderful children's play park has already been completed, with a model steam railway operating on certain days throughout the summer, offering sit-on rides for children. Bike hire will also be available.
For a spot of 'retail therapy', try a visit to 'Coed y Dinas', which is just a few miles away near Welshpool. Huge range of country wear, homewear, gifts, clothing plus an Agricultural centre and Garden Centre. The Cafe/Restaurant is also very good and serves an excellent 'Welsh Breakfast' using local produce - great choice for departure day to set you up for your journey!

We have an excellent 9-hole Golf Course and Driving Range just 2 miles away - Lakeside Golf Course - which also has a beautiful restaurant which serves super meals all day, from breakfast onwards. It has views across the course and the River Severn - really lovely.

For a fun, family day, we can highly recommend 'Park Hall Farm', near Oswestry - a 40 minute journey from us.

We have several beautiful castles to visit:- Powis Castle, Welshpool - 7 miles from us! Beautiful in the summer as you have the garden to go around as well as the castle. It is home to hundreds of deer as well as a few peacocks.

Stokesay Castle, Craven Arms - about 20 miles from us!

Ludlow Castle - about 26 miles from us - a really beautiful, historic market town - excellent market on a Wednesday and Saturday in the town square with lots of local producers.

Don't miss the opportunity to take a ride through our glorious Welsh countryside on this heritage, single gauge steam railway. Special events are run throughout the year, including visits from Paddington Bear, Fireman Sam, Peter Rabbit and Father Christmas!

For a really lovely day out, we can also recommend the Rheiddol Railway in Devil's Bridge. The Vale of Rheidol Railway re-creates the Edwardian spirit of adventure. Step aboard one of the restored steam trains for a stunning journey along the Rheidol Valley. Since opening in 1902, millions have enjoyed the scenic trip through the ancient woodlands to Devil’s Bridge, home of the famous waterfalls, nestled in the astounding Cambrian Mountains.

Another super place to visit with many interesting producers and craftspeople is Corris Craft Centre, plus the 'King Arthur's Labyrinth', as well as a beautiful journey to reach there.

COASTAL DAYS OUT
Aberdyfi - gorgeous seaside fishing village, but be careful of tides when swimming. Great seafood restaurant called Seabreeze, but you definitely need to book.
Newquay - beautiful, quaint, welsh seaside destination with very safe beach for swimming and great for dolphin spotting and boat excursions and fishing trips.
